What Irish shoppers now pay in duty
The duty-free exemption for imports under €150 ended in Ireland and other EU states at the start of July. A €3 per item customs duty replaced it, according to The Irish Times. The change applies to low-value ecommerce imports.
For a worked example, three items each subject to the €3 duty would carry €9 in customs duty: 3 × €3 = €9. That figure covers the customs duty alone. Read the total shown for your order before paying.
What happened to Shein’s US sales
Shein’s US revenue fell 14.3% to $2.04 billion in the first quarter. The company reported a $99m quarterly loss, citing slowing sales after the US removed its duty exemption on small packages and a one-time accounting charge, according to RTÉ.
In response to higher US duties, Shein said it is pursuing options including raising prices in the US market. Its warning about Europe concerns the effect on sales: the company says the EU duty could match or exceed the impact it saw in the US.
Shein’s Dublin warehouse opened in June
Shein opened a 16,000 sq ft warehouse and ecommerce logistics facility in Rathcoole, Dublin, in June, according to the Irish Examiner.
Europe accounted for about one third of Shein’s revenue in 2025, according to RTÉ. The EU is a key market for the company, which issued its European sales warning.
