How to add An Post tracking to Shopify orders

Start with the Shopify order you’re sending and the tracking number for its parcel. Shopify says you can add tracking numbers directly in the admin for labels purchased outside Shopify Shipping.

• Match the parcel’s tracking number to the order before entering it.
• Use An Post as the tracking company name for an An Post parcel.
• Decide whether to send the customer a shipping confirmation email.

For an integration that also creates the fulfilment, prepare the items being sent. Shopify describes fulfilment creation as marking items fulfilled when they’re ready to ship.

Use Shopify’s admin to attach the tracking number to the relevant order. Use the number from the label you purchased for that parcel.

1. Have the order and its parcel tracking number ready.
2. Add the tracking number directly in Shopify’s admin.
3. Use the recognised An Post tracking company name.
4. Choose whether to send the shipping confirmation email containing the tracking link.

If you’re handing this work to someone who fulfils your orders, give them the matching order and tracking details together. Include your customer notification choice so they know whether you want the shipping email sent.

Shopify lists An Post among tracking companies available to shops in any country. According to Shopify, recognised tracking company names let it build clickable tracking links.

For an integration, pass the company name as An Post. Shopify asks integrations to use the exact listed name and capitalisation.

Shopify says tracking links appear in the shipping confirmation email. Sending that email to the customer is optional. Choose to send it if you want Shopify to notify the customer with the parcel’s tracking link.

For a custom integration, include your notification preference in the fulfilment request. Shopify’s API accepts both tracking information and customer notification preferences, so give the developer your instruction for each alongside the fulfilment details.

Shopify warns that recognising a tracking company does not itself mean shipment status updates automatically. If you need automatic status updates, check the integration’s published behaviour for tracking scans before including those updates in your shipping workflow.

A custom integration can use Shopify’s fulfilment API to mark items fulfilled when they’re ready to ship. The same API accepts tracking information and customer notification preferences, according to Shopify.

EirLink says creating a label pushes tracking to Shopify, marks the order fulfilled and notifies the customer. It says it checks An Post scan events every half hour. Its account costs €0 a month, and its own-account route needs an An Post eCommHub business account with API access enabled and an API key, with postage billed directly at the seller’s agreed An Post rates.

Among the prices PostCompare compares, An Post’s cheapest bookable price for a 1 kg parcel within Ireland was €12.25, with a delivery time of 3–5 days, in prices checked on 5 October 2026.

Use the Ireland route page to compare postage for the weight you’re sending. If you use your own An Post account through an integration, use the rates agreed for that account when working out your parcel cost.

Before submitting tracking information, check the parcel number against the order and review the customer notification choice. For an API integration, check the carrier spelling in the tracking input as well.

• Set the notification preference to match whether you want the shipping confirmation sent.
• Create the fulfilment for the items that are ready to ship.
