Four million addresses are due to change
Canada Post says approximately four million addresses still receive door-to-door delivery. Its national conversion programme covers those addresses and is expected to take about five years.
Centralised delivery already serves almost 75% of Canadian addresses, according to Parcel and Postal Technology International. That includes both mail and parcels.
Where parcels delivered by Canada Post may go
Canada Post says more than 80% of the parcels it delivers fit into a community mailbox compartment or a dedicated parcel compartment.
A parcel that does not fit, or needs a signature, has two delivery routes: delivery to the door or collection at a nearby post office.
What to plan for when posting to Canada
If Canada Post delivers your parcel from Ireland to an address moving to community mailboxes, tell the recipient that delivery may be to a community mailbox compartment, the door or a nearby post office. For a parcel that does not fit or needs a signature, allow for door delivery or a trip to a nearby post office.
You can compare postage for your parcel’s weight on the Canada route page.
