Get your account and handover arranged
DHL Express says Commerce requires a DHL Express account. Have your account details ready before working through Commerce registration. If you are arranging a new account, include activation in that task before preparing customer shipments.
The DHL Express registration page includes Ireland in its business-country selector. Select Ireland for your Irish business. Confirm with DHL Express that your account is active and how you will hand over parcels.
Write the agreed handover arrangement into your packing routine. Give anyone covering dispatch access to that information and identify who handles account queries. If someone else prepares your orders, make sure they know when a labelled parcel is ready for handover.
Bring Shopify orders into Commerce
DHL describes its Shopify app as the official DHL Express Commerce app. Its listing advertises order synchronisation and shipping workflows. Commerce’s website says it imports orders from an eCommerce platform.
Use an order from your store to review the imported information before preparing its label. Compare it with the Shopify order and the parcel you are packing. Resolve any mismatch before printing, especially if you have several orders open at the packing bench.
- Have your DHL Express account details available and use DHL’s official Commerce app listing for the Shopify workflow.
- Review the order imported into Commerce against the corresponding Shopify order.
- Choose thermal printer output or PDF download for the label.
- Match the printed label to the packed order before moving the parcel to handover.
Choose who reviews imported orders when more than one person handles dispatch. Give that person responsibility for resolving discrepancies before the printing stage.
Choose thermal labels or PDF downloads
DHL Express Commerce says it sends labels to a thermal printer or downloads them as PDF. Choose the output that fits how you intend to print labels at your packing bench.
For thermal output, review a printed label before processing a group of orders. For PDF output, organise the downloaded documents so you can match each file to its order when printing. Use a consistent place for downloaded labels if several people share the dispatch work.
DHL’s official Shopify app also advertises batch label printing. Before preparing a batch, arrange the packed orders in the sequence you will use to match their labels. Attach each label as you match it, then move the parcel out of the queue awaiting labels.
If printing is interrupted, review which parcels already have labels before continuing. Check the remaining printed labels against the remaining orders rather than relying on their position in a pile.
Use tracking updates for customer enquiries
According to its Shopify App Store listing, DHL’s official app advertises tracking updates alongside order synchronisation. Include tracking in your review of the workflow before assigning customer enquiries to someone else.
When handling a tracking enquiry, find the customer’s order and review the update associated with that shipment. Base your reply on the available shipment information. Avoid using another parcel’s progress to estimate what has happened to the order in front of you.
If packing and customer service sit with different people, agree who checks the tracking updates. Give the person answering the customer the relevant order reference so they can identify the shipment without searching through the day’s printed labels.
Prepare DHL Shopify customs information and electronic submission
DHL’s official Shopify app advertises electronic submission for paperless customs clearance. Include the customs submission stage when reviewing how you will prepare international orders.
Review the customs information you prepare against the goods packed for that order before submitting it electronically. Use the actual parcel contents for that review. If you change what goes into the parcel during packing, review the information again before submission.
Assign this review to the person preparing the shipment, or include it explicitly in the handover between staff. Finish the review before placing the parcel with orders awaiting dispatch. For UK orders, the UK customs guide provides a route-specific reference.
Compare the parcel price and account terms
Among the prices PostCompare compares, DHL’s cheapest bookable price for a 2 kg parcel from Ireland to the United Kingdom was €47.73, with a listed delivery time of 1 day, in prices checked on 5 October 2026.
For your parcel, enter its weight and destination in the quote tool. Review the available prices for that combination before deciding what shipping charge to put against the order.
For shipments through your DHL Express account, confirm your contract rates and account terms with DHL Express. Use those agreed figures when calculating the shipping cost of orders you intend to process through Commerce.
