What you need before buying labels

EirPost says it sells discounted An Post labels to small businesses and online sellers for parcels up to 2kg. You need no An Post business account, contract or monthly minimum. You buy the label online, print it at home and hand the parcel in at a post office.

Weigh your parcel with its packaging before choosing a band. EirPost asks sellers to pick the nearest band and round up when in doubt. Its prices depend on the destination and weight, and it shows the price before you pay.

For Great Britain, enter the item description, value and weight so EirPost can build the customs declaration. For US parcels, it generates a CN22-style declaration from the item details you enter. EirPost says parcels from Ireland to Northern Ireland need no customs declaration.

Plus, Pro and the free account

EirPost lists Plus at €19 a month for unlimited labels and bulk processing. Pro costs €39 a month for advanced features and API access. Its terms say labels created through the API use the same balance as labels created on its site or through a connected shop.

According to EirLink, Plus gives access to discounted EirPost rates, while sellers can pay retail without a subscription.

How the EirPost prepaid shipping balance works

EirPost describes the balance as money paid in advance for shipping labels. EirLink says you top it up by card on eirpost.ie, starting at €10. EirPost says top-ups are non-refundable and never expire.

Choose a top-up amount based on the postage you expect to buy. Any unused balance remains available for future labels. According to EirPost, labels created on its website, through a connected shop or through its API all use that balance.

EirPost says an EirLink connection can create labels and read your balance and tracking information. It cannot top up, cancel or change your account. You can remove the connection in EirPost’s settings.

Creating EirPost labels for Shopify and Etsy orders

EirPost says it accepts an Etsy or Shopify order CSV and generates labels for every order in one go. For connected Shopify orders, EirLink says unfulfilled orders import automatically and can be labelled with EirPost by a click or an automation rule.

  1. Weigh the packed parcels and select the right EirPost weight bands.
  2. Create labels online or use an Etsy or Shopify order CSV for a batch.
  3. Check the displayed label prices before paying from your balance.
  4. Print the labels and hand the parcels in at a post office.

EirPost says its labels print on a 4x6 thermal label. Parcels travel through the An Post network with full tracking.

EirLink says it creates batches of up to 100 labels and merges them into a PDF. When it creates a Shopify label, it sends the tracking number to Shopify, marks the order fulfilled and notifies the customer. It lists Etsy integration as coming soon.

Failed labels, weight charges and cancellations

EirPost says money held for a failed label goes straight back to the balance. EirLink says it retries failed labels without redoing the whole batch.

If An Post bills a heavier weight band than you declared, EirPost charges for that band and takes the difference from your balance. EirLink says this happens after the monthly invoice. Include packaging in the weight you enter before buying a label.

To request cancellation, EirPost asks you to email the tracking number. It says it credits the cancelled label to your balance if the parcel can be stopped.

EirPost says Rofsen is the registered name on its An Post account and appears on every EirPost label. A recipient returning a parcel uses your own return address. Give the buyer that address when arranging the return.
