Letters still account for most items
The annual report records 294 million letters delivered last year. Adding letters to parcels and contract packets gives a combined total of 367 million items. The parcel and contract packet figure works out at about 200,000 a day, according to BreakingNews.ie.

Post offices handle more parcels
Parcel volumes at post offices rose 75%, helped by online shopping and second-hand platforms such as Vinted. An Post’s ecommerce business grew by 27% in 2025, according to Post & Parcel.
An Post also handled the largest Christmas peak in its history. Parcel volumes increased by 37% in November and December.

Most mail is heading for a slower service
McRedmond outlined a change to letter delivery: most mail will move to a two or three day service, while next day delivery will remain available. Under that plan, allow for the longer service when timing permits, or choose next day delivery when you need it.

Revenue rises as An Post seeks more borrowing
Revenue from letters and parcels rose by 12% to €735 million, according to The Irish Times.
An Post is asking the Government to raise its €75 million borrowing cap. Post & Parcel reports that the limit has been in place for 42 years.
